met & married my husband in 1979. I  worked for social service as a caregiver.

With a Comparative Literature BA from Columbia University earned in very late youth I’ve had time to experience high and low culture, 21 years living in New York City, from ballet studies through 17th century poetry, to salt water sailboat regattas and sports car racing, with unlikely friendships, volunteerism at Greenwich concours, Kips Bay showcase house, and most significantly at Ground Zero during the horrific week of 9/11/2001, with more than 30 solo trips to Europe, rewarding if inconstant work as a product marketing manager, then Business Process Analyst mercenary against the shadows of perfidy and mendacity, writing and counseling for companies such as GE, Bank of America, and Solo Cup, a key member of the team that created hoopla—a cloud-based mobile application for Books, CD’s, DVD’s for the Public Library Consumer (more than One Million Users so far); a foot soldier against the idiopathic but bespoke disease of Parkinson’s, on good days with vain denial and coy excuse I call myself a (very) minor public intellectual, on bad days an under-employed coffee house knowledge postulant.  I’m a vegetarian 39 years, I’ve long-since quit drinking alcohol and smoking street drugs (31.5 years), I’ve been a serial monogamist, privileged and always curious.

I love this crazy, tragic, sometimes almost magic, awful, beautiful life.
Lost the sight in my right eye working on my car in June 1971. This changed my life for the better, I found out. Floated around aimlesly until 1973 when I got a job at a Porsche Audi dealer. Got married in 1974 and moved to Lisle. 1974 energy crisis hit and was put on night shift so I went to work at a VW dealer on the day shift.
Then to a Chevy Olds dealer. Then I decieded enough with being a mechanic.
Found a job as a machinist, found much more personal satifaction making parts than repairing somebody else's car.
Bought my first house in Bolingbrook in 1978. 1979 changed jobs again and bought my first Porsche 356. It was too rusted so I sold it for parts and bought my next one. Spent 3 years as a production machinist and then was transferred to the R&D Dept. where I tested converyor belt fasteners. I invented a method for cutting strained steel cable and have a patent with my name on it. 1986 moved to Oswego. 1987 daughter Ashley was born. 1989 wife files for divorce. Guess I was spending to much time restoring my Porsche. Moved back to mom's house during my divorce. Met wife #2 in 1990 and moved to Lombard and got married again. Moved to Wauconda in 1991 and changed jobs to be closer to home. 1995 started my WWII reenacting.
Moved to Sycamore in 2001 and then divorced for the second time in 2006 and remarried right away to right one this time. Deb is a newspaper editor in Sandwich Illinois and freelance writer for a farm paper. Deb grew up on a dairy farm in central Illinois. I have 3 wonderful step kids. Jessica is 15 and a sophomore high school this year. Andrew is 20 and in the Army. He is in Afghanistan now as EOD  (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Tech. Guess my WWII inert ordnance collection had something to do with that. My third step kid is Katie 23 and has a daughter Emily who is 2 1/2.
What a joy a grandchild is.
That's my crazy,tragic,Sometimes almost magic,Awful,beautful life.

After OPRF, I got a BS in Biology-U of IL and a MS in Wildlife-U of WI.  I met my wife Therese on the north slope of Alaska.  Had a string of temp jobs in MI prior to converting to my current position with a small, yet inept federal natural resources agency.  Have recently entered their pre-retirement training program.  For most of my career I've been involved in monitoring the health of bald eagles and colonial waterbirds in MI.  More recently, work has taken me farther afield and international.  I worked the BP oil spill in LA this summer, and just recently returned from a flamingo project in South Africa.

Starting in 1976 I could No Longer keep adding to "My Courses Collection" at the U of I Champaign-Urbana as my primary occupation ... and started teaching Junior High Science & Math. THAT filled 10 years at 3 schools across 2 states. Yes--The brain damage from the experience is permanent--Why Do You Ask ??

By then I was in Mpls MN, married to a General Surgery Resident at the U of MN, a Rookie Mom AND regularly in touch with Fellow-OPRFHS'ers Lisa Lee & Kathy LaCoy !!

Since the MN years ... Pete & I & our girls have been to...
Cleveland OH for a Peripheral Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic...
Winchester TN for the first surgery practice ... And To Thaw Out From All Those Years In Minnesota...
NE Pennsylvania (Wilkes-Barre & Dallas) for the next 11 years of surgery practice & child-rearing...
And Now ... Evansville Indiana ... Since 2004.

Throughout the years of all this moving around ... Oak Park Has Remained ONE OF MY ANCHORS ... Because--LUCKY ME--For 50 Years ... My Parents Stayed Put At The Same Home On South Taylor Ave That We Marshall's (there were 7 of Us Kiddos) Took Over In 1959. They finally had to put it on the market this Spring (it sold in 3 days) ... But Mom & Dad Still Live In Oak Park At The Holley Court Terrace Apartments@ Marion & Ontario--Almost Heaven !!

Anywho ... It's really NOT NECESSARY for Me to upload a "NOW" photo because ... I Haven't Changed A Bit.

"That's my story and I'm sticking to it."

After OPRF, attended/graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, with a Bachelor of Music Ed degree.  Taught elementary music for 4 years in Lake Bluff, IL, while getting my Masters of Music at Northwestern.  Through a mutual friend of dear classmate Priscilla Mims, I met my husband David Boggs, who was getting his MBA at Northwestern.

The rest is history – fell in love, married and moved out east (closer to his family) – and we’ve lived in the Boston area since then.  Raised 2 sons – one of whom lives in Austin, TX; we visit our favorite “other” city as often as possible!

In Boston, I took a management job working in sales for “The Phone Company” – AT&T at first, then New England Telephone and its various "morphifications" into what is now Verizon.  Left Verizon awhile back and continued to sell telecommunications/cloud services for an IT firm based out of Rhode Island and then Virginia, the last 10+ years or so working from home and selling to businesses in New England.  Planning on retiring soon!

For fun, we enjoy traveling & planning trips (our favorites recently have included exploring various parts of Germany & Austria).  We spend a week each summer on a chain of lakes in The Adirondacks of NY State – heaven for those who love nature, hiking, watersports, available services but no crowds.  Hobbies include running, pilates, swimming, Qi Gong, dancing (swing and most recently Country 2 Step), music (piano and voice), cooking and gardening, including growing our own hops and brewing our own beer!
